Robocalling: Understanding flagged calls and their potential risk

GCI is proud to offer our local phone customers an industry-leading solution to better identify the calls they receive. You may have noticed some new caller ID labels displayed on your phone. These are the result of GCI following the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandate called "STIR/SHAKEN" that helps you identify the level of risk of potentially harmful phone calls. You may now see caller ID labels of "Potential Spam," "Potential Scam," or "Potential Fraud" when receiving calls.

  • Potential Spam: Low potential risk
  • Potential Scam: Medium potential risk
  • Potential Fraud: High potential risk

For more information on FCC mandates on scam calls, visit fcc.gov/consumers/guides/stop-unwanted-robocalls-and-texts.

To report a fraudulent call, or if your phone number ever displays as potential fraud on a call recipient's caller ID, visit reportarobocall.com/trf.

GCI business customers making outbound phone calls should register their numbers to reduce the potential of calls being flagged as risks on call recipients' caller ID at freecallerregistry.com/fcr/#submitform.

Robotexting and text blocking: GCI's screening protocol

In accordance with the FCC's rules, GCI has put measures in place to protect customers from texts that are highly likely to be from illegal robotexts. These protections may cause certain text messages to be blocked on GCI's network under specific conditions. If you think your messages are being blocked by mistake, please call GCI at 907-265-5400 (select options 2, 5, then 1) or email support@gci.net.
