These are the basic steps to setting up a GCI.net email address in Microsoft Outlook. The screen shots may vary slightly from your screen, but they should be similar.
Open Outlook using one of these methods:
- Open the desktop icon
- Enter "outlook.exe" in the Start search box
- Find the Outlook folder in the programs file
After Outlook opens, click on the File tab in the top left.
That will display a screen similar to the one below. Click "Info" on the left, then click on Account Settings.
Click "New."
To make sure your mailbox is properly set up to send and receive emails using your GCI.net account, we recommend clicking the check box next to "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" from the Add New Email Account screen. (Not configuring manually may result in your account not being able to send emails.) Then click "Next."
Make sure Internet Email is selected, then click "Next."
Fill out the following information on the Internet Email Settings screen, then click "More Settings."
- Your Name: Enter the name you want displayed
- Email Address: Enter your GCI.net email address
- Account Type: Select either POP3 (recommendeD), IMAP, or HTTP
- Incoming mail server: Enter mail.gci.net
- Outgoing mail server: Enter smtp.gci.net
- User Name: Enter your username. (This may automatically be entered and is typically the part of the email address before the @ symbol.)
- Password: Enter your password. (If you want your password remembered, check the "Remember password" box.)
- Make sure the "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SP)" box is not checked
- Click More Settings
Click on the "Outgoing Server" tab.
Check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Make sure you've selected "Use same settings as my incoming mail server," then click "OK."
Click "Next."
Click "Finish."
Your email account is now set up to send and receive emails with Outlook.
