Want to keep your current phone number when you switch to GCI? No problem — number transfer (also called porting) makes it possible. Here’s everything you need to know to make the process quick and easy.

What is number transfer (porting)?

Porting allows you to move your existing mobile number from your current carrier to GCI. This means you don’t have to share a new number with friends, family, or coworkers — you’ll keep the same number you already use.

What you’ll need from your current provider

Before GCI can transfer your number, you’ll need to request a transfer PIN (sometimes called a port-out PIN) from your current service provider. Each carrier has its own process:

AT&T

Verizon

If you’re with a different carrier, visit their website or call their customer service for details on how to request a transfer PIN.

⚠️ Tip: Make sure your account is active and in good standing before requesting a transfer. A suspended or canceled account can cause delays in moving your number.

Purchasing a new mobile phone

Thinking about upgrading when you switch? GCI offers the latest Apple and Samsung devices — often with great deals when you move your number to us. Ask about financing options or promotions when you connect with our team.

Finalizing your switch with GCI

Once you have your transfer PIN, GCI can handle the rest. You have a couple of easy options:

  • Visit a local GCI store
    • Our retail teams are ready to help you complete the transfer in person and set up your new phone or SIM card the same day.
  • Prefer to do it remotely?
    • Call us at 1-800-800-4800. We’ll mail your new device or SIM card right to your door, and our support team will guide you through the activation process.

Once your number is successfully transferred, you’ll be ready to experience Alaska’s most advanced mobile network — all while keeping the phone number you already know and love.
