LTE upgrades from Tern Lake to Seward offer improved service for large swaths of Seward Highway

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – As the brilliant colors of fall make way for winter flurries on the Kenai Peninsula, GCI is wrapping up another section of its LTE wireless service expansion on the peninsula – a two-year, $6.3 million project.

GCI wireless LTE service upgrades at Tern Lake, Moose Pass, Stoney Creek and Seward are improving voice and data service and expanding coverage along large sections of the Seward Highway south of the Sterling Highway junction.

“From Moose Pass to Seward, our customers will not only experience more reliable voice service and faster data speeds, but also a real public safety benefit as they travel along one of Alaska’s busiest stretches of highway,” said Greg Klimek, vice president, GCI Wireless Marketing. “GCI built Alaska’s largest wireless network and we’re committed to continuing to upgrade our wireless service and expand our coverage footprint across the state.”

The majority of the project’s 37 tower site upgrades on the Kenai Peninsula have been completed. Homer residents will experience improved coverage later this year when service upgrades are completed on GCI’s wireless tower at the end of the Homer Spit.

Since 2014, GCI has put more than $180 million into its wireless network and serves more than 240 communities. GCI is committed to growing its wireless footprint and improving service across Alaska. More than 97 percent of Alaskans are within GCI’s network.

GCI has improved or expanded service in more than 35 communities, so far, in 2018. GCI will launch wireless service and internet upgrades in more Alaska communities in the coming months.
