Michele Yatchmeneff

Rural roots: A born-and-raised Unangax woman, Michele grew up living a traditional subsistence lifestyle in rural villages along Alaska’s Aleutian chain. Still returns to her village when she can to harvest food with her family.

Honor roll: As UAA’s first female Alaska Native engineering professor, Michele’s favorite part about teaching is seeing Alaska youth break barriers they don’t even know exist.

Giving back: She credits programs like Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program for her success, where she continues to work with students year-round.

Whether you were born and raised in Alaska or just have the Alaska born and raised spirit, we want to hear from you.
