Do I need a separate SSID for my 2.4GHz smart devices?
No. AK-Fi Home simplifies your network to a single SSID/network name that's shared among all devices (including 2.4GHz and 5GHz). There is no need for separate networks with AK-Fi! If you would like to set separate access restrictions, you may do so using Zones.
Change or create a new WiFi password
During the initial setup, the first password created is a Home zone password, although you can add more. The following instructions refer to the Home zone. (Read more about AK-Fi zones.)
- Log in to the AK-Fi app using your MyGCI credentials.
- Tap the icon with three horizontal lines on the app home screen.
- Tap "Adapt."
- Select the level of access for this password by chosen zone: Home, Guest, or Internet Only.
- On the Home settings page, tap "New Home Password."
- Enter your new password then tap "Add" to save.
WiFi name and password requirements
- WiFi name (SSID) must have 1-31 characters
- Passwords must be 8-64 characters
View or change your WiFi network name (SSID)
As the AK-Fi Home app guides you through setup, you'll be prompted to name your network and password. To change your network name after initial setup, do the following:
- Tap the icon with three horizontal lines on the app home screen.
- Tap the "Adapt" tab. You will see your default WiFi name.
- Tap on the pencil icon.
- Enter your new WiFi name, then tap "Done."
Share your Wifi passwords

- Choose the method you want to use to share the password (SMS, email, AirDrop, etc.), then send. The recipient will receive a link that will take them to a web page with the WiFi and password information.
Create a new password for a guest
- Tap the icon with three horizontal lines on the app home screen.
- Tap "Adapt."
- While on the Guest settings page, tap "New Guest Password."
- Enter a name and a new password. (You can set up different device access permissions and auto-disable Wifi password settings for each name under the Guest zone.)
- Use the dropdown arrow next to "Auto-expire WiFi Password" and choose one of the options.
- Add a checkmark next to one or more shared home devices (printer, NAS, media player) to allow your guest access to it over the network.
- Tap "Add" to save.
