GCI partners with ATIA to promote local travel offers on TV, radio, social media
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – To help bolster Alaska’s tourism industry this summer, GCI has launched “Wander AK Wednesdays” in partnership with the Alaska Travel Industry Association to promote local travel offers and encourage Alaskans to support one of the state’s biggest economic engines.
“GCI has deep Alaska roots and we will continue to support our neighbors, especially those in the tourism industry, which has been greatly impacted by COVID-19,” said GCI Chief Marketing Officer Kate Slyker. “Through our new ‘Wander AK Wednesdays’ program, we’re working hand-in-hand with ATIA to help spotlight local travel and tourism businesses across the state.”
The tourism industry, which drew in an estimated 2.26 million out-of-state visitors in 2019, is a major economic driver for Alaska. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, travel restrictions and health concerns have significantly reduced the number of visitors expected to make the trek this summer to the Last Frontier. GCI hopes the extra spotlight will be a boost for the hard-working Alaskans in the tourism and the travel industry.
“There’s never been a better opportunity for Alaskans to get out and explore their home state and support local tourism businesses that are being hit hard by COVID-19,” said Sarah Leonard, President & CEO of the Alaska Travel Industry Association. “Having partners like GCI to help boost Alaska’s tourism industry is critical to keeping businesses’ doors open and ensure this economic cornerstone stays strong well into the future.”
GCI will promote offers from ATIA member businesses and encourage in-state adventuring on TV, radio and social media – as well as to its 2,000 employees around the state.
As Alaska reopens amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, GCI strongly suggests Alaskans follow the health and safety precautions outlined at covid19.alaska.gov. Remember to practice good hygiene and handwashing habits, as well as maintain social distancing when traveling outside of your home and community. When it comes to traveling in state, remember to check for any additional local city or borough restrictions.
