GCI provides $2,500 in cash, dedicated and reliable internet connectivity to the event
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – GCI is the Connectivity Sponsor of this year’s UAF Business Leader of the Year Award ceremony, recognizing Fairbanks-area business leaders who demonstrate exceptional leadership, business accomplishments, community involvement and educational support. This year’s award recipient is Jim Dobson, President and CEO of the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation.
In addition to his work with the FEDC, Dobson, a lifelong Fairbanksan, has been instrumental in orchestrating the community’s push to bring more F-35 fighter aircraft to Eielson Air Force Base. The arrival of the F-35s at Eielson AFB is expected to bring in about 3,000 active duty personnel, contractors, civilians and their dependents. This would bring Eielson’s total population up to about 10,000 people and boost the local Fairbanks economy.
“With the expected arrival of more F-35s at Eielson and the anticipated economic growth that will occur in the greater Fairbanks area as a result, GCI is proud to support organizations promoting the important work being done by local business leaders,” said Director of GCI Regional Operations Perry Allen. “The fiscal future of Fairbanks is important to businesses throughout Alaska, including GCI, and we are proud to play a part in the community’s economic future.”
Dobson was formally recognized as the 43rd Business Leader of the Year during a dinner and award ceremony on Saturday, April 20, in the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel’s Gold Room. Among the almost 400 guests in attendance were 14 previous award winners.
