GCI employees join in the fight to end breast cancer
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI volunteers, in partnership with Alaska Airlines, handed out water this past weekend at the Alaska Run for Women as participants ran, walked and jogged past Westchester Lagoon. In addition to volunteering and providing connectivity to race officials, several members of the GCI Women’s Network (GWeN) ran in this year’s race to raise money and awareness to combat breast cancer and promote women’s health.
“GCI promotes a culture of giving back to our communities and our employees take this commitment seriously,” said Amanda Prasil, GCI Marketing Senior Manager of Contribution & Events. “Through our volunteer program, many GWeN members were able to get out and help in the fight to end breast cancer and support an amazing event.”
Employees donate their time through the GCI Volunteer Program. The GCI volunteer program provides full-time GCI employees with 16 hours of paid time each year to volunteer with the community organization of their choice. In 2018, more than 660 GCI employees volunteered nearly 8,200 hours through this program.
“I have supported the Alaska Run for Women and its mission to help bring an end to breast cancer for over 20 years,” said Jennifer Lamoreaux, GCI eLearning Content Developer. “It’s one of my favorite events to participate in each summer and it was great to run with several of my co-workers this year. It means a lot to me to see GCI’s steady support of the event year after year.”
