ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Pull out the Xtratufs, GCI is returning to Eaglecrest Ski Area this Saturday with its second annual GCI Day on the Mountain. This free, family-friendly event kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, with a number of new activities for the snowless winter, including an Xtratuf sprint race.
GCI Day on the Mountain will feature hiking on the area Nordic trails, Xtratuf sprint competitions, snow painting, food truck BBQ from Fatmo’s, prizes, giveaways and special discounts by GCI and a live performance by Cousin Curtiss before he kicks off his upcoming tour.
“Without the snow, we needed to get creative this year for the GCI Day on the Mountain and we think the community is really going to enjoy it. We're always seeking ways to connect and give back to communities we serve, and we are thrilled to do that this weekend,” said GCI Southeast Vice President Warren Russell. “GCI is proud to be part of the Juneau community and excited to offer this event for them.”
The event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of canned foods for the Southeast Alaska Food Bank. Free reusable tote bags to carry the canned goods are available at both GCI Juneau stores and at Fred Meyer leading up to the event.
“Its great that GCI has decided to do this food drive for us,” said Darren Adams, manager of Southeast Alaska Food Bank. “This is the time of the year when we are not receiving the sizes of donations that we get around the holiday giving season, and we are thankful to everyone who participates to help feed a lot of people in need.“
“This is a great partnership between Eaglecrest and GCI. It’s a great opportunity to get the community up to Eaglecrest, focusing on family fun in support of Southeast Alaska Food Bank,” said Director of Sales, Marketing and Snowsports School at Eaglecrest Ski Area Jeffra Clough. “This year, we are focusing on some non-skiing events with hiking, snow painting and Xtratuf races that will be a great day for families to come together and enjoy Eaglecrest.”
GCI Day on the Mountain is just one example of GCI’s on-going commitment to the Juneau community. In 2014, GCI announced it will bring fiber re:D Internet to Juneau in 2016. This 1-gigabit service will not only be the fastest Internet available in Alaska, but will be comparable to the fastest speeds available in the entire U.S. In addition, GCI doubled area re:D speeds and expanded its 4G LTE coverage to the Eaglecrest Ski Area last year.
