Agreement includes TLC and Animal PlanetANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Alaska’s largest TV and broadband service provider, General Communication, Inc., reached a long-term agreement with Discovery networks, a lineup that includes TLC and Animal Planet channels. The deal, negotiated by the National Cable Television Cooperative, allows GCI to continue broadcasting 15 popular entertainment channels without interruption.
The National Cable Television Cooperative negotiates on behalf of smaller cable providers to provide the best value and leverage for these independent providers and cable subscribers.
With the agreement, GCI gained rights to offer Discovery network streaming apps and video-on-demand products to its GCI GO and GCI On Demand lineups in the near future. GCI GO provides 70 channels of online programming for smartphones, tablets, game consoles and computers.
Discovery network channels available on GCI include: Discovery, Discovery HD, TLC, TLC HD, Animal Planet, Animal Planet HD, Velocity HD, Investigation Discovery, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), Discovery Family, Science Channel, Science Channel HD, Destination America and Destination America HD.
