100 Mbps now available in re:D communities
Anchorage, Alaska - Following GCI’s announcement to be the first to provide one-gigabit Internet service in Alaska, it has doubled its existing Internet top speed to 100 megabits-per-second. GCI’s re:D customers, its premier Internet product, can experience this speed increase immediately and at a cost savings.
Today, GCI’s 100 Mbps broadband service is available to re:D subscribers in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Palmer and Wasilla. GCI lowered the price of the service by $25 and existing customers experienced the speed increase automatically. Wasilla and Palmer are the most recent communities to have the high-speed broadband package available, with the service launching there on Thursday, Dec. 19.
“This announcement is another example of GCI’s continued commitment to provide Alaskans the latest in communications technology. We were the first Alaska carrier to provide single-hop satellite long distance calling, the first to provide high-speed Internet service, the first to construct redundant high capacity fiber cable networks between Alaska and the lower 48, and the first to provide terrestrial broadband service in rural Alaska. Since our founding, GCI has invested well in excess of $2 billion in Alaska’s communications infrastructure, and we continue to lead the market in technological innovation. We’re focused on ‘what’s next?’ to benefit Alaskans.”
