Thousands of volunteers will help distribute turkeys and all the fixings to families in need
Anchorage, Alaska – Food Bank of Alaska is leveraging a $10,000 matching donation from GCI to gain substantial community support to feed hungry Alaskans this holiday season. GCI’s donation will support Thanksgiving Blessing in Anchorage, a community-wide event put on in partnership with the faith community.
“No Alaskan should suffer from hunger,” said GCI Chief Marketing Officer Kate Slyker. “GCI is proud to support organizations like Food Bank of Alaska to help those in need, especially around the holiday season.”
Roughly 1,500 volunteers will participate in Food Bank of Alaska’s Thanksgiving Blessing today at six locations around Anchorage to help provide an anticipated 8,300 families in need with a turkey and all the necessary fixings for Thanksgiving dinner.
Nearly 103,000 Alaskans – 1 in 7 – struggle from hunger. Any given week, 6,300 Alaska households use Food Bank of Alaska’s network of food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other programs for food assistance.
