Two Anchorage School District Students Receive Recognition for Earning Perfect Attendance in First Quarter
Anchorage, Alaska – Two students were surprised today as they were recognized as the first quarter winners for the Drive for Perfect Attendance Recognition Program. Elise Oelke from Dimond High School won 25,000 Alaska Airlines Miles courtesy of GCI. A group of committee members, Anchorage School District staff and family members crowded into her second period class and made the presentation. Najma Ibrahim from Clark Middle School was brought on stage during the lunch period and presented with an iPad from GCI.
“As an employer, GCI values the dedication it takes to earn perfect attendance. We are happy to recognize these hard working students. This is a fun way to bring attention to the importance of coming to school every day.” said Senior Vice President and General Manager Paul Landes. “The GCI team is happy to continue rewarding the effort of local students as we enter the third year of the Drive for Perfect Attendance.”
Since the program began, overall attendance has improved at Anchorage-area middle and high schools. This quarter, 3,627 middle school students earned perfect attendance. In addition, 2,324 11th and 12th graders have perfect attendance and are still in the running for the end-of-the-year grand prize. Students who have perfect attendance for the year will be eligible to win a 2015 Jeep Renegade, courtesy of Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of South Anchorage, or 50,000 Alaska Airlines Miles, courtesy of GCI. One middle school student will win an Ultimate Field Day for his or her entire school as an end of year grand prize compliments of For Fun Alaska.
The Drive for Perfect Attendance Recognition Program, an Anchorage School District School Business Partnership program, is celebrating its third year and is made possible by local businesses including GCI, Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of South Anchorage, IBEW, Fun For Alaska, Saltchuk Corporation, Subway of Alaska and the Alaska Railroad.
At the end of the school year, high school students with perfect attendance will also be entered to win one of four pairs of round-trip tickets to Seward or Denali on the Alaska Railroad. Additionally, all high school students with 95 percent or better attendance will receive a voucher for a foot-long sandwich, donated by Subway.
