GCI stealth tower means skiers have service throughout Kincaid Park
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI, Alaska’s largest telecommunications and technology company, is providing in-kind support and reliable wireless connectivity for the 2018 Alaska Ski for Women in Anchorage’s Kincaid Park, an area previously known for spotty coverage and limited data availability.
In addition to wireless connectivity, GCI is also providing two technology packages for the Alaska Ski for Women’s silent auction. Funds raised through the Alaska Ski for Women are donated to a variety of local community, non-profit organizations helping to stop the cycle of domestic abuse against women and children in Alaska.
“One of my earliest memories was the year we all walked the course because there was no snow,” said Jennifer Slaughter, eLearning Content Developer, GCI HR Learning & Development, and longtime supporter of the Alaska Ski for Women. “I continue to participate each year because it’s a fun event and there are so many creative costumes. I appreciate GCI sponsoring events that have such a big impact on the community, like this one does.”
GCI launched 4G LTE service in Anchorage’s Kincaid Park in July 2017 with the completion of a new stealth tower, disguised as a spruce tree to fit seamlessly into the park’s scenic landscape, adding a new level of safety through reliable wireless coverage in the area.
“At GCI, we know how important safety and connectivity is to adventure-seeking Alaskans, and we are proud to have Kincaid Park on the coverage map,” said Paul Landes, senior vice president and general manager, GCI Consumer Services. “And we’re excited that GCI can serve and provide an additional element of safety to incredible community events like the Alaska Ski for Women.”
The Alaska Ski for Women takes place Feb. 4, 2018, with bib pickup starting at 9 a.m. in Anchorage’s Kincaid Park Chalet.
