ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The 69th Annual Gold Medal community basketball tournament will kick off this weekend in Juneau. GCI is proud to be a leading sponsor of this year’s tournament, which brings teams from 10 Southeast communities together and has been organized by the Juneau Lions Club since 1947.
Throughout the tournament, players and fans can enter to win prizes like the latest smartphones and tablets from GCI. During the championship game on March 21, one lucky winner will take home 25,000 Alaska Airlines Miles courtesy of GCI. In addition, GCI sales reps will be at the games to answer questions, help attendees upgrade to the latest smartphone or tablet and more.
“GCI is excited to sponsor the Gold Medal Basketball Tournament,” said GCI Vice President Southeast Regional Operations Warren Russell. “This annual event provides plenty of fast paced competition and allows family, friends and communities to meet in Juneau. They can celebrate, spend quality time together and cheer for their home teams. Melinda Carle is a retail representative who works at the GCI Juneau stores. She will be representing her hometown of Angoon during the tournament. From March 15 – 21, teams from Angoon, Craig, Haines, Hoonah, Hydaburg, Kake, Klukwan, Metlakatla, Wrangell and Yakutat will be in Juneau to compete.
“I’ve played in the tournament a few times, and I really like it because it allows me to visit with family who come to Juneau from across the Southeast,” said GCI Angoon representative Carle. “The games can get really exciting, with lots of community support and family members cheering from the bleachers.”
