Do you want to learn about the latest in telecommunications and IT, and be able to bring that knowledge back to your students?

GCI’s Externship Program is designed to give educators and administrators exclusive insight into the day-to-day work and responsibilities of today’s telecom, IT, and business career tracks. This two-week program will allow participants to observe work activities, provide hands-on demonstrations; discuss jobs and requirements; and ask many questions.  Our hope is for you to instill in your students the knowledge and enthusiasm you gain from this program to help plant the seed for a stronger technology workforce in Alaska. 

 

How to Apply
Applications can be found at www.gci.com/careers. Position title is Extern, Teacher. Participants will be required to complete a GCI application form online and pass a background check.

Who is eligible?
This program is open to Alaska-based teachers, instructors, professors and technology administrators in K-12, technical schools and universities. Selection will be based on the candidate’s curriculum and activities. Priority will be given to high school teachers and college educators in STEM and career and technology-related fields. Participation is limited to 8 teachers; as space permits, middle school teachers will be considered.

Anchorage, Alaska.

Is this a paid position?
Yes, participants will be paid an hourly wage.

Do I get credit? 
Yes, academic credit will be available through the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
