Setting up your mobile app and network

Network Setup

When you get started, you will be prompted to create your WiFi zones.

  • Secure WiFi zone
This zone is used for local devices that absolutely need to be kept separated from the rest of the network. This can be used for point-of-sale systems and security cameras.
  • Employee WiFi zone
This zone can be used for the admin and other staff to connect to the network. Local devices that will be shared will also connect to this zone.
  • Guest WiFi zone
This access zone is used for guests to the business, such as customers, visitors, and clients. Users accessing this zone will use a captive landing page to log in and will not have any local access. Users of this zone will only have access to the internet.

You'll need to create separate SSIDs and passwords for both the Secure and Employee zones. While using the same SSID and password as your old network can simplify the transition, new passwords provide better security.

Connect to WiFi

The app will prompt you to join the new WiFi network.

Tapping "Join" will take you out of the app and into the WiFi settings so you can connect to the Employee WiFi zone.

iOS users will be prompted to copy their password, while Android users will join automatically.

Once back in the AK-Fi Work app, a "Welcome aboard" message indicates the device is now connected and the new WiFi network is operational.

Enable Notifications

Choosing to enable notifactions will send a push alert to your phone in case of events on the network or security alerts triggered by Shield.

These alerts can be turned on and off in the device's app settings once onboarding is complete.

Configure Your Guest Network

The first step will be to enter the business info. This includes the business name, footer text, logo, and terms and conditions.

If your business has a website, the logo can be imported from the URL.

If there is no website, the logo can be imported from the phone's gallery and the other information entered.

If the Guest network was not set enabled during the initial setup, it can be created afterwards from Settings.

The SSID can be changed and, once enabled, the Limit Internet Usage function can be used to limit guest bandwidth to a specific percentage.

Unlike the Secure WiFi and Employee WiFi zones, the Guest WiFi zone does not use a password. Guests use a captive portal which provides their device a token. You must set up a guest login portal before your guests can use the WiFi.

Login options allows you to choose how your guests can sign in to the portal and get internet access.

The Redirect URL is the page the guest is redirected to once they have successfully logged in. This can be set to the business' homepage, Facebook page, etc. The Redirect time duration customizes how long that redirect takes.

The Advanced section provides format options for the portal, like text and background colors.
