FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anchorage, Alaska – For the first time, mobile data service is available in Yakutat thanks to GCI, which launched new wireless service in Yakutat on Aug. 15. This new service includes voice coverage and for the first time 2G/Edge data speeds.
Four new cellular towers were built and installed, providing customers in Yakutat with its largest service area to date including the Yakutat Airport, a location that previously did not have wireless coverage. Customers have a variety of competitively priced plans to choose from, connecting them to Alaska’s largest wireless network, which covers 95 percent of the state’s population and offers access to 3G or 4G LTE speeds where available.
“GCI is proud to bring wireless service to the Yakutat community. This new service will give customers access to the largest wireless network in the state with coverage in more than 200 communities,” said GCI Senior Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Services Paul Landes.
To celebrate the launch, GCI is offering free feature phones and free activation, as well as a contract buyout offer for anyone who is currently under contract with a different carrier. Customers who choose GCI’s UpgradeNow financing can get a new phone for zero dollars down.
Since being founded in 1979, GCI has invested over $2 billion to bring the latest telecommunication technologies to Alaska, reflecting GCI’s ongoing commitment to the innovation Alaska needs to support industry, education, health care, job growth and livability for today and the future.
