Do GCI GO’s Content Partners Provide Parental Controls?
Some of GCI GO’s content providers such as HBO, Cinemax and Starz require parental controls. Those controls are set separately on each channel’s web sites.
Other GCI GO content providers may display ratings codes for each show but do not have parental controls.
Where can I see the ratings given to shows and movies on GCI GO?
We’ve included our Guide to Ratings Systems below. In general, you should be able to see the rating of a show or movie prior to selecting it and television show ratings are typically disclosed in the upper left corner at the beginning of every program.
GCI’s movie rating system is the same one you’re already familiar with from movie theaters. Learn more about what guides the MPAA ratings board’s decisions at www.mpaa.org.
G: General Audiences. All ages admitted.
PG: Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may be unsuitable for children.
PG-13: Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some material may be unsuitable for children under 13.
R: Restricted. Children under 17 require accompanying parent or adult guardian.
NC-17: No One 17 and Under Admitted.
The television rating system appears in the upper left of the screen at the beginning of a program and often after commercial breaks. Learn more about what these ratings indicate at www.tvguidelines.org.
TV-Y: All Children TV-Y7: Directed to Older Children. Designed for children age 7 and above.
TV-7FV: Programs in which Fantasy Violence may be more intense than other TV-Y7 programs.
TV-G: General Audiences. Most parents find this suitable for all ages.
TV-PG: Parental Guidance Suggested. May be unsuitable for younger children.
Trailer ratings are reflected in the background color of the trailer’s initial screen. Typically, trailers appear before or in association with similarly rated content. For example, an R-rated movie trailer will not run before a PG film.
Green: Suitable in the context of the current material.
Yellow: Suitable for age-appropriate Internet viewing.
Red: Mature Audiences. Only shown with R, NC-17 and Unrated movies.
GCI GO is also in compliance with COPPA, or the Child Online Privacy Protection Act, which states websites collecting information from children under the age of thirteen are required to comply with Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
