FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Per the agreement effective March 25, 2024, MA 240000118 Supplementary Wireless Service Devices, you will be required to purchase a new phone by submitting a ticket through AKNow. 

You will be charged the new rates for your services. The three categories of monthly service charges are priced at the following:

  • Smartphones: $41.99 MRC
  • Data-only plans: $36.99 MRC
  • Basic feature phones: $16.99 MRC
 
GCI is working with the State of Alaska to collect the necessary information from the 15 departments in the Executive Branch in order to successfully complete the transition from their existing carriers and equipment to GCI. Once this information is collected and processed, a migration schedule will be communicated out to the State and posted here.
GCI has established three methods of distributing wireless devices: scheduled distribution events held at SOA facilities across the state; direct shipment to you; or, you may schedule an appointment at one of GCI’s many retail stores throughout the state.

Yes. Your phone number, even if it is with another wireless provider, will stay the same.
You can purchase any phone listed under the device listing page.
No, you may choose any of the phones in GCI’s lineup. If you are selecting a phone not offered as part of this contract, it may be purchased at a discount off of the retail price.
In all cases, requests for phones and mobile devices must be processed in AlaskaNow using the existing process outlined by the State prior to walking into a GCI store. Once the ticket has been opened in AlaskaNow, the SOA Service Center can make arrangements for you to pick up your new phone at a GCI Store.
No, your existing iPad will work on GCI's network. You only need to request new service from GCI and we will ship you a new SIM card for your iPad. Once you place this SIM in the iPad, it will automatically change the settings to use our network. No other actions are required.

Placing Requests

Agencies should submit requests through the State of Alaska AlaskaNow system. If you are having trouble submitting a request, contact the SOA Service Center. For more information on AlaskaNow, see the State’s Office of Information Technology website.
