Previously, the city of Bethel had multiple departments working on the same antiquated Local Area Network (LAN), including the police department. At the same time, the city’s phone system was no longer supported by its manufacturer and needed to be brought in line with best practices. Having been impressed by the exceptional customer service the city had received with GCI Managed Internet, long distance and wireless services, the city asked GCI to assess their network and make recommendations.
When replacing outdated technology, you can rely on GCI’s skilled professionals to keep security and safety as their top priorities as they deploy upgrades or entirely new solutions. Contact us with your requirements and we’ll meet your needs.
GCI provided a four-phase solution. We first resolved the city’s wiring issues, upgrading to at least Cat5. We installed Force10 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches to provide both data and power connections in one cable. Then we integrated an Allworx IP phone system with specialized software designed for public safety. Finally, we moved the city’s existing satellite internet access connection to terrestrial service —by way of GCI’s TERRA, a next-generation communications network.
GCI’s project manager worked closely with the city’s IT director, the chief of police, the dispatch system provider and the local phone company to ensure we met every department’s needs. The city of Bethel was thrilled with the new phone system and with the professionalism displayed by our highly skilled team during implementation.
