FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Anchorage, Alaska - A new era begins for the Great Alaska Shootout as GCI, Alaska’s number one telecommunications company and proven community leader, is announced as the premier basketball tournament’s title sponsor.

“As an Alaska-based company, GCI is honored to become such a big part of the Great Alaska Shootout’s long-standing tradition and is looking forward to bringing new energy and life to this much-loved event,” said GCI Senior Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Services Paul Landes. “Our goal is to have the GCI Shootout once again be the most sought-after, sold-out event in the entire state. We plan to advance the local and national clout of the Great Alaska Shootout by bringing top-notch basketball programs from around the country to experience our great state and compete with our always-talented Seawolves.”

The GCI Great Alaska Shootout will take place Nov. 25-29, at the Alaska Airlines Center, which is set to open in summer 2014. GCI intends to expand promotion of the event to encourage even more Alaskans to support this important sporting event and enjoy the action on the court, through promotion of the games at more than 40 retail locations statewide along with a number of other measures.

“This tournament consistently brings top-caliber teams from across the United States to Alaska, as well as provides exposure of UAA athletics to basketball fans the Lower 48,” said University of Alaska Anchorage Athletic Director Keith Hackett. “We look forward to working with GCI to continue the legacy of this iconic event in Alaska.”

The GCI Shootout will feature University of Alaska Anchorage; former tournament champion Washington State; fourth-time visitor Pacific University; newcomers Colorado State, Mercer, Missouri State, Rice and UC Santa Barbara. For the women's division, University of Alaska Anchorage will host Boise State, Long Beach State and Yale.
