Novatel 720 Settings

Installation and information about the Novatel 720 mobile broadband device. This service was previously known as Xtreme Mobility.

Installation Steps

1. Download the Driver file CLICK HERE.

  • Select the Windows Driver Version2 for Novatel Xtreme Mbility Cards (Novatel U720 Drivers)

2. Click Save.

3. Look for this icon, displayed below, in your download directory.

 

 

4. Double click on the icon labeled 3G_Deriver_v2.23.pkg

 

 

5. Press Continue

 

 

6. Press Continue

 

 

7. Press Install

 

 

8. Enter your security name and password for your computer. Note: This username and password is for your computer, which is a normal Macintosh requirement for installing new programs. It is not a username and password for the Novatel 720 modem.

 

 

9. Press Install

 

 

10. After it finishes installing

 

 

11. Press Restart

Running the Application

1. Insert the Novatel device into your computer, the application should auto-start.

 

2. If it does not, click on the signal icon.

 

 

3. In the drop down, select Turn  Card On.

 

Uninstalling the Program

This device installs drivers only, not an application, so there are not uninstall options. Steps on how to remove this driver may be found on the Internet; GCI does not recommend or endorse those steps.

Novatel 720 Macintosh Settings

Installation Steps

Novatel 720 Windows 7 Settings

Installation Steps

  1. Verify you have an active internet connection. This is necessary for Windows 7 to connect to the Windows Update site and download the correct drivers
  2. Connect your Novatel USB720 to a USB 2.0 port on your computer
  3. Windows Update should download and install the correct drivers as well as setup a new connection called 3G Connection.
  4. Reboot (shut down and restart) your computer.
  5. After your computer restarts, click on your Network Icon in the system tray then Open Network and Sharing Center
  6. On the left side click on Change Adapter Settings
  7. Right click on 3G Connection and left click on Properties
  8. Change the phone number from the default of ppp to #777
  9. Click OK

Once the steps above are followed the connection should be setup, you just need to activate the connection. There are two ways to activate the connection:

  1. Click on your network icon in the system tray
  2. Click on 3G Connection
  3. Click on Connect

Or …

  1. Click on the Windows Logo (start menu) in the lower left corner
  2. Click on Connect To
  3. Click on 3G Connection
  4. Click on Connect

The first timeyou connect, a Windows pop-up will appear asking you to select the type of network you are connecting to. Set this to PUBLIC as it will set the firewall appropriately.

IF YOU CONNECTED YOUR NOVATEL USB720 PRIOR TO HAVING AN INTERNET CONNECTION (Not Recommended)

  1. Connect the Novatel USB720 to an available USB port
  2. Click on the Windows Logo (start menu) in the lower left corner
  3. In the Search programs and files box type device manager
  4. Click on the Device Manager link under Control Panel
  5. You should see under Other Devices there are two Data Interface devices with an icon which is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside it
  6. Right click on each of these Data Interface devices and left click on Uninstall
  7. Remove the Novatel USB720 and follow steps 1-8 at the beginning of this guide

Novatel 720 Windows XP or Vista

Installation Steps

1. Insert the CD

  • CD should auto-start.
  • If the CD does not auto-start:
  • Windows XP:
    • Click Start
    • Click Run
    • Click Browse
    • Navigate to the CD drive
    • Click on the Autorun.exe file
  • Windows Vista
    • Click Start
    • Click Search
    • Click Browse
    • Navigate to the CD drive
    • Click on the Autorun.exe file

2. Click on Install MobiLink

3. After seeing a “Preparing to Install” message, you should see a display similar to this screen shot.

4. Click Next

5. Click in the circle next to “I accept the terms in the license agreement.”

6. Click Next

7. Click Install

8. After seeing some Installing MobiLink screens

9. GCI recommends ensuring the check mark is next to the Create Desktop Shortcut - If you do not want a shortcut on your desktop, then click in the box to remove the check mark.

10. Click Finish

11. You can press Quit on the Novatel Wireless MobiLink Connection Manager.

Using the Installed Application

1. Locate the MobiLink desktop short cut

2. Double Click on the MobiLink desktop short cut (MobiLink icon)

3. Insert the USB720 device into a USB slot

4. Your system tray will display a message similar

5. The MobiLink interface will display your ready status

6. The light on the modem device will be steady green. You are not connected to the network yet.

7. Press the Connect button

7a. During the initial installation you may need to perform the following

  • If you see a request for an Activation code: enter 688283
  • If you see a request for a MIN: enter the 10 digit MIN provided by GCI.
  • If you see a request for a MDN: enter the 10 digit MDN provided by GCI.

8. The device will start displaying connection information, and the light on the device will blink.

9. You should be connected to the network and be able to surf the Internet, or check your email.

  • Your connection speed will depend on your location, network usage, and signal strength available.
  • To attempt to improve the signal strength, flip up the antenna tab.

10. What your connection manager will resemble

11. To end the session

  • Press Disconnect on the MobiLink interface

12. The MobiLink interface will display a ready to connect status and the light on the modem will become a steady green.

13. You may unplug the modem at this time.

14. To close the MobiLink interface, click on the “power” button located on the right corner of the interface.

 

Uninstalling the Novatel Application

Steps to uninstall the Novatel application.

1. Open to the control panel

  • Start | Control Panel

2. Double-click on the Add or Remove Program icon (shown above)

3. Scroll down to and highlight the MobiLink icon

4. Click on the Remove button

5. The program (application) will uninstall.
