ANCHORAGE, AK - - Who says faster can't be
cheaper? Today, GCI announced that its premium hi-speed Internet
packages will increase in access speed and decrease in cost.
Platinum cable modem packages will be upgraded to provide 1.534
megabits per second (mbps) access speed for as low as $99.99 per
month. Previously, Platinum packages offered 1.024 mbps beginning
at $299.99 per month.
Gold cable modem packages will be adjusted to provide 1.024 mbps
access speed for as low as $84.99 per month. Previously, Gold
packages offered 768 kilobits per second (kbps) speed beginning at
$99.99 per month.
"Our customers consistently ask for faster throughput," said
Terry Nidiffer, GCI Internet general manager. "Our broadband
platform, metropolitan area networks and fiber optic connections
allows us to continuously scale services to meet that demand."
Customers already signed up for these plans will be converted
automatically on October 10. Consumers wanting to sign up for GCI's
quicker, cheaper cable modem service will receive one free month
and pay no activation fee.
Prices and speeds for the Silver (256 kbps) and Double Up (512
kbps) cable modem packages remain the same.
Cable modem service from GCI offers the only certified Cisco
powered network in Alaska, the convenience of always-on
connections, the ability to hook-up eight computers to a single
modem and a dial-up account for out-of-town travel. Cable modem
service is currently available in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and
surrounding communities.
