GCI OFFERS MEDIA ACCESS
McGrath, Cripple, Galena, Unalakleet, White Mountain,
Nome
ANCHORAGE- GCI enters its 11th year as the
Iditarod's official communications provider and offers new Internet
access points for news media to distribute their stories.
High-speed Internet hubs and race web cams will be available to
the news media in the following checkpoints: McGrath, Cripple,
Galena, Unalakleet, White Mountain and Nome. To access the
Internet, media should have an Ethernet capable laptop. It is
recommended that media have their laptop's configuration tested by
GCI engineers at the Iditarod Media Briefing set for March 3. There
is no charge to access these hubs.
GCI continues to provide the Iditarod Trail Committee high-speed
Internet access at other checkpoints throughout the race, as well
as local, celluar and long-distance telephone, networking and
operational support and maintenance.
In addition, GCI is sponsoring the Halfway Checkpoint Award for
the first musher to reach the Cripple Checkpoint, 534 miles from
Anchorage. This year the winner will receive the Dorothy G. Page
Halfway trophy and $4,000 in gold nuggets. GCI employees are
volunteering for the Iditarod to provide staffing for the
checkpoint.
GCI's total commitment to Iditarod exceeds $200,000 annually in
cash and services.
GCI (NASD: GNCMA) is an Alaska-based integrated communication
provider delivering voice, video and data services through its
