FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GCI DIGITAL CABLE SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE IN FAIRBANKS
Fairbanks, AK - For the first time, Fairbanks
cable customers will have the power to click through more than 130
cable channels of premium, special interest, pay-per-view and
CD-quality music programming. Beginning September 1, GCI will offer
digital cable service, the latest in cable television technology,
to customers in Fairbanks, North Pole, Eielson AFB and Fort
Wainwright.
"This exciting opportunity represents GCI's ongoing commitment
to bring the latest technology and services to our Fairbanks
customers," said Kevin Sheridan, GCI regional manager.
GCI digital cable service works on any television set and offers
13 special interest channels, 16 premium channels, 16 pay-per-view
channels, 45 channels of commercial-free music, an interactive
program guide as well as 47 channels of regular cable service.
Digital cable service is relatively new to the entertainment
industry. Nationwide, only seven percent of cable TV subscribers
have the service. Digital service in Fairbanks was made possible by
more than $1 million of upgrades GCI performed on the existing
cable television plant over the past year. Until now, digital cable
service in Alaska was available only in the Anchorage area.
To receive digital cable, customers must receive either the Big
Deal or Preferred Service and pay an additional monthly fee that
varies depending on existing service. For most customers, this fee
is $10. With a digital subscription, customers also receive a
digital converter box and universal remote control.
For more information about digital cable service, customers
should look for brochures in their monthly billing statements, or
may call the Fairbanks GCI office at 452-7191. A demonstration of
digital cable is available at the GCI office located at 505 Old
Steese Highway.
GCI (NASDAQ:GNCMA) is an Alaska-based and operated company that
provides local, wireless and long-distance telephone, cable
television, Internet and data communication services to more than
180,000 customers throughout the state. More information about GCI
