GCI ANNOUNCES FASTER CABLE MODEM SERVICE FOR ANCHORAGE, FAIRBANKS and JUNEAU

2.4 Megabits per second Internet Access Now Available

ANCHORAGE, AK -- The fastest just became faster today as GCI announced that it is ramping up speed and throughput on its cable modems in Alaska's three largest cities. The new service will allow Internet users to surf at speeds 50 times faster than dial-up in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau.

GCI's new Diamond cable modem package will provide 2.4 megabits per second access (mbps) speed and 30 gigabytes throughput for as low as $149.99 per month. This is twice as fast as the leading Internet access product currently offered in the Alaska market.

"Our customers consistently ask for faster speed," said Terry Nidiffer, GCI Internet general manager. "Our broadband fiber optic networks allows us to continuously scale services to meet that demand, and offer our customers an early Christmas present. It's a nice way to thank customers for their business. "

GCI's Platinum package will increase throughput from 20 gigabytes to 25 gigabytes per month for no additional charge. Download speed will remain 1.5 mbps.

GCI's Gold package will have speed increased from 1 mbps to 1.5 mbps and throughput increased from 15 gigabytes to 20 gigabytes per month for no additional charge.

GCI's Silver Plus package (formerly called Double Up) will be upgraded to provide 1 mbps access speed for no additional charge. The previous speed provided was 512 kilobits per second with 10 gigabytes throughput per month.

Customers currently enrolled in these plans have been converted automatically. New cable modem customers wanting to sign up for GCI's faster Diamond cable modem package will receive two free months and pay no activation fee Offer available through the end of the year.

GCI's cable modem service is available to 90 percent of Alaska homes, and 96 percent of homes served by GCI cable. This is one of the highest rates of cable modem availability found among U.S. cable TV providers.
