GCI LAUNCHES EMAIL FILTER DESIGNED FOR BUSINESSES
Counters spam, viruses and wasted time
ANCHORAGE, AK -- GCI announced today it will offer Alaska businesses a powerful tool to fight an ever increasing barrier to worker
productivity-spam and virus email. GCI's eMail Guard for Business is an email filter that puts business owners and employees in control of
screening unwanted junk emails.
"We estimate that more than 75 percent of email delivered to businesses today is spam," said Terry Nidiffer, general manager of GCI Internet. "eMail
Guard for Business gives employees a significant advantage in the escalating battle to control unwanted spam and viruses. It keeps the unwanted message
off the business's network, Internet connection and mail servers. This reduces equipment costs and increases network and server up-time."
One of eMail Guard for Business best features is its ability to be tailored to the specific needs of each business and/or employee. The service
is a unique email filter that works with virtually any business's existing email server and allows the authorized business administrator to manage users,
notifications and set default filtering parameters. The employee is able to set personal email filtering preferences and review all filtered spam and
viruses.
eMail Guard for Business filters email by scoring it on multiple criteria - origin of email, subject of message, content type and content text.
Valid messages are not stored in memory, but delivered to the employee's email box, while spam and virus messages are quarantined in a web-based,
password-protected message center for employee review. The entire quarantine process is fully automated and virtual, accessible to only the employee or
authorized administrator. eMail Guard for Business users, notifications and default settings can be managed by the business or GCI, and works with
most Internet standards-based email service.
eMail Guard for Business is available to any business on the Internet with an existing email server. The monthly fee ranges from $24.99 to
$134.99 (plus an activation fee) for GCI customers, and is based on the number of employee email accounts. Rates for businesses with more than 201 employees
are determined on an individual basis. Businesses can call 265-5454 (1-800-800-7754 outside Anchorage) or email gcisales@gci.com for more information.
Based on revenues, GCI (NASDAQ:GNCMA) is the largest Alaska-based and operated integrated telecommunications provider and provides local, wireless, and
long distance telephone, cable television, Internet and data communication services throughout Alaska. More information about the company can be found at
